In January, during the week of the Lord’s Baptism, we wrote to you about the difficult decision to disestablish In Word and Witness. At that time, as the Board was preparing to dissolve the organization, we remained committed to finding a new home for its mission and ministry. We also asked for your prayers.
With the Feast of Pentecost still warm in our liturgical memory, we are writing today to let you know the prayers have been answered. The Holy Spirit has descended upon this community and prepared a way for us to continue proclaiming the Good News:
In Word and Witness will continue as a unique and independent
Catholic organization dedicated to evangelization and catechesis,
with a mission to transform the world by reflecting Christ.
Over the last six months, the Board, especially its executive members, have worked ardently to secure a hopeful future for In Word and Witness. After careful discernment, the Board accepted a proposal from John Roberto, founder and president of Lifelong Faith Associates, to appoint a new leadership team and focus on the next iteration of our organization. To facilitate this transition, the current Board will resign in full on June 30.
Honoring the vision of Pope St. John Paul II, In Word and Witness will not be new in its mission or ministry. It will be an expression of the new evangelization, “new in its ardor, methods, and expression.” The next leadership team will share more with you in early July.
As we move through this transition, the outgoing Board is thankful for the faithful service given to this organization by former Executive Director, Margaret Matijasevic, and former Director of Mission Integration, Victoria Radleigh Smith. Their leadership was able to sustain In Word and Witness through the crisis of a global pandemic. We are also indebted to the executive members of the Board, who have worked as missionary disciples to make this good news happen: Jodi Hunt, Joe Perdreauville, John Gaffney, and Jackie Hopper.
And we welcome the new members of the In Word and Witness leadership team: John Roberto; Denise Utter from Families Living Faith; Sr. Janet Schaeffler, adult faith formation specialist; Jose Amaya, director of faith formation, Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA; Kathie Amidei, pastoral associate, St. Anthony on the Lake Parish, WI; Catherine LaVecchia, director of lifelong faith formation, Church of the Presentation, NJ; and Diana Macalintal, co-founder and director, Team RCIA.
We are delighted to bring you this news. Through the grace of Jesus Christ and the example of St. Paul the Apostle, may God continue to make every grace abundant for us, so that in all things, always having all we need, we may have an abundance of every good work (2 Cor 9:8).
Peace & Good,
In Word of Witness | Board of Directors
